September News!

September has been another busy month at SVM, with Autumn shaping up to be incredibly productive and eventually leading us all into a very merry Christmas.  As well as making great headway on established projects, September has also seen additional works being awarded that will keep us warm right through the winter.

New projects starting out with us this month include some CCTV design in Allerton and TMD works in the Inverness area.  We are also getting full advantage of the short commute to Glasgow Central Station, as we have become involved with further projects in this major railway hub, covering HV Arch ventilation and design for the Caledonia Sleeper lounge.  In the commercial sector we’ve been keeping things picturesque as we have been looking at design for a B&B in Ballater, a favourite with visitors to the beautiful Cairngorms.

September’s biggest ongoing projects are headed up by UPS surveys at multiple railway sites; toilet refurbishments in Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes; retail works at Glasgow Central Station, Darlingtion resignalling and Station Car Park CCTV; Perth Modernisation; MELF works at Yoker; Millerhill Depot stabling roads; Cadder wheel lathe; South Gyle Station footbridge; LV AC/DC power and Telecoms surveys; and Balgray Station AFA.  As well as these big hitters, we are still extremely active all across the country starting in the North with pumping station and signalling power works in Dundee; and works on the Aberdeen to Central Belt and Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie routes.  Inverness remains a popular destination this Autumn with CSMD sump pump works, replacement control panels, Motorail buffer stop lighting; train crew accommodation; and sleeper servicing design.  In the Central Belt we continue to provide building warrant assistance at Yoker and Corkerhill depots; further AFA works at Cardenden Station; some water supply issues at Barrhill Station; and LV design on the Haymarket to Dalmeny route.  Walkway lighting at Craigentinny Depot; Corkerhill Departure Roads; and electrification elements at East Kilbride are all making good progress; while we remain involved with CETs at Craigentinny; remedial works following a fuel spill at a Glasgow depot; Access For All works at Dunbarton Central and Bellgrove Stations; and electrical design at Mossend Rail Terminal.  At multiple sites across the country we continue to provide advice for Legacy Migration design; Heritage Migration works; and ESD design between Glasgow and Edinburgh.  The main Scottish stations are also a constant source of activity with ongoing projects including design for lighting control, ventilation refurbishment, advertising boards, calorifiers; and distribution at Waverley; and Level 4 TPE, electrical surveys, PSP and compressor works, and plant arch fire protection at Glasgow Central.  England also remains busy with Clacton wheel lathe works; continuing works at Etches Park Depot; Transpennine Express premises in Hull, Newcastle and York; Ravensthorpe SFC; and works on the Ferrybridge to Goole route.

Large scale design works for Stranraer Marina expansion continue to be our biggest current commercial endeavour, and boats prove to be an excellent change of pace from trains!  As well as this we also remain involved with works for office refurbishments in Annan and Garscadden; and two recycling plants in the Glasgow area.

September is back to school time for several of the SVM team.  SVM puts a high priority on education and development among our staff and this year we have 5 junior members returning to University courses to further their skills in the workplace.  We are happy to support this growth amongst the younger staff and wish them all the best for another academic year.  So if you think that SVM can provide an environment in which you could thrive, either in the mechanical and electrical disciplines or even some part time admin assistance, then we want to hear from you.  Send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
