October News!
/Halloween is just around the corner and although the temperature and the leaves may be dropping, activities in the SVM office are, as always, on the rise. With several new projects from old and new clients alike, the office is as busy as ever, meaning that, when the clocks go back this weekend, we can really put that extra hour to good use!
SVM have picked up many treats this month with new projects arising in October for railway EP design at a yard in Perth; Motherwell PSP; and auxiliary signalling power at various sites. There’s new WCML works at Law and Newton; AFA design at Falkirk Grahamston; and a fire damper scheme at Edinburgh IECC. Meanwhile, there are several new projects at multiple sites for heritage migration works; the design phase for the Megastream project following the surveys; FTN FGI renewals at Stoke and Didcot; and a rectifier survey at Greenhill. We have also remained active in the commercial sector with new works begun for a Dentist surgery in Glasgow and electrical design for a workshop near Larbert.
Our big Autumn projects are led in October by UPS surveys at multiple railway sites; Inverness TMD design; Clacton wheel lathe works; Perth Modernisation; Millerhill Depot stabling roads; Cadder wheel lathe; Megastream surveys; Balgray Station AFA; and sleeper servicing design at Inverness. We have many projects ongoing that cover multiple locations across the country including LV AC/DC power and Telecoms surveys; works on the Aberdeen to Central Belt and Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie routes; Legacy Migration design; Heritage Migration works; and ESD design between Glasgow and Edinburgh. We have some busy stations too with Glasgow Central continuing to play host to retail design; HV Arch ventilation; design for the Caledonia Sleeper lounge; Level 4 TPE; electrical surveys, PSP and compressor works, and plant arch fire protection. Meanwhile Waverley is buzzing with design for lighting control, ventilation refurbishment, advertising boards, calorifiers; and distribution. Casting our net across the rest of the country we remain busy in Inverness with CSMD sump pump works, replacement control panels, Motorail buffer stop lighting; and train crew accommodation; while, working South, we continue to provide design advice for pumping station and signalling power works in Dundee. Getting nearer the home turf of the central belt, we have ongoing MELF works at Yoker; design for South Gyle Station footbridge; building warrant assistance at Yoker and Corkerhill depots; further AFA works at Cardenden Station; and LV design on the Haymarket to Dalmeny route. Walkway lighting at Craigentinny Depot; is making good progress as are electrification elements at East Kilbride; CETs at Craigentinny; Access For All works at Dumbarton Central and Bellgrove Stations; and electrical design at Mossend Rail Terminal. Heading South of the Border, we continue to be very busy in England with CCTV design in Allerton; toilet refurbishments in Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes; Darlington resignalling and Station Car Park CCTV; Transpennine Express premises in Hull, Newcastle and York; Ravensthorpe SFC; and works on the Ferrybridge to Goole route.
One of our largest commercial projects to date for Stranraer Marina expansion is ongoing in October as is design for a B&B in pretty Ballater. We also remain involved with works for office refurbishments in Annan and Garscadden; and two recycling plants in the Glasgow area.
The festive party season is on the horizon and SVM are kicking it off once again by taking 2 tables at Scotland’s IRSE Dinner in Glasgow. This is still the largest annual rail industry event in Scotland, typically attracting over 350 guests, so SVM are delighted to lend our support and look forward to an informative and enjoyable evening. There could still be room for a new experienced mechanical or electrical engineer at those tables so, if you have experience in the rail industry, then maybe SVM could be the place for you. Send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk – and get the party started!
