June News!
/SVM are in an excellent position as we head into the summer months. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed engaging with the industry this Spring, having attended a Rail Conference in Dublin and exhibited for the first time at Glasgow’s RIN event. This was very successful, with a lot of credit going to SVM’s Jamie Taylor for organisation of the promotional materials and literature that helped make the SVM table the place to visit! We were delighted to meet everyone who stopped by to talk to us and we look forward to speaking to you again in the near future.
New projects joining us this summer include building warrant assistance at Yoker and Corkerhill depots; a large scale scheme covering resignalling for Fife Circle; and initial enquiries regarding multiple operational telecoms sites stretching as far afield as Penzance. We are also revisiting some familiar sites undertaking new works for digital advertising boards at Waverley and Glasgow Central, the wheel lathe at Cadder Yard; stabling roads at Millerhill Depot; and, as always, it’s gratifying to attract this kind of repeat business. Away from the Railway we have been contacted to look at some underpasses around the Clyde Tunnel by Glasgow City Council and electrical works for a factory in the Polmadie area of Glasgow.
There are also plenty of existing projects still with us through June and these are led by Dundee Stabling. ESD works between Glasgow and Edinburgh; Darlington car park and signalling power; Yoker MELF works; Legacy Migration design; and AFA works at Balgray Station. Also ongoing this month, we have projects from the top to toe of the country, starting in the North with CCTV design at Banff about to get underway; CSMD sump pump works, Caledonia Sleeper servicing, replacement control panels, fuel tank failure analysis, Motorail buffer stop lighting and train crew accommodation all at Inverness. water pipe diversion, pumping station and signalling power works in Dundee; Dunkeld access ramp; and works on the Aberdeen to Central Belt and Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie routes. Moving a little further South, we arrive at Scotland’s main stations with live projects for lighting control, ventilation refurbishment, multiple DBs, calorifiers; and distribution at Edinburgh Waverley; and Level 4 TPE, electrical surveys, PSP and compressor works, retail supplies; and plant arch fire protection at Glasgow Central. Elsewhere around the central belt we are in the early stages of design for further AFA works at Cardenden Station; some water supply issues at Barhill Station; and LV design on the Haymarket to Dalmeny route. We have made good headway this month on resignalling design in the Perth area; a PHCC in Arbroath; car park CCTV at Winchburgh; walkway lighting at Craigentinny Depot; Corkerhill Departure Roads; and the ongoing electrification works at East Kilbride. Design works for Portobello are in full swing as are CETs at Craigentinny; DPS at Broomloan; and remedial works following a fuel spill at a Glasgow depot; while, in Ayrshire and the Borders, we continue with Irvine MDU; re-energisation works at Ayr Station; and tanking works in Dumfries. In England we are still busy with Clacton wheel lathe design; Transpennine Express premises in Hull, Newcastle and York; footbridge lighting in York; Ravensthorpe SFC; Ferrybridge to Goole route works; and the completion of various works at multiple depots including Tysley, Eastcroft and Etches Park. We also remain involved in several projects that are spread out across the country including 11kV renewals at multiple Railway sites REB wraparound protection; remedials design; energy reports; Scottish Heritage power supplies design, UPS renewals; depot CET/water facilities design; and design for station platforms on the West Highland main line.
While always slightly overshadowed by the Railway, we are delighted to remain involved in the commercial sector, with large scale design works for Stranraer Marina expansion; Glasgow’s famous SEC; a residential conversion in Blair Atholl; office refurbishments in Annan and Garscadden; a healthcare facility in Elland; and two recycling plants in the Glasgow area.
We’re looking forward to a busy summer, with a packed portfolio and our RISQS audit due at the beginning of July. So if you think you can stand the heat and would like to be a part of all these exciting projects, either in the mechanical and electrical disciplines or even some part time admin assistance, then we want to hear from you. Send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk and get on board!
