June News
/SVM are swinging into summer with a bumper crop of projects and a diary full of enviable events! We would like to thank everybody involved in organising another excellent RIN event earlier this month and to those who stopped by the SVM table – we loved talking to you all! We also enjoyed a great night at the Scottish Transport awards in June supporting Kent PHK and Volker with their nominated PSP & Compressors Renewal project at Glasgow Central station, where it was a privilege to be involved in such innovative works. While there was sadly no award for the Kent/Volker project, SVM would like to extend many congratulations to all the winners on the night. Next on the agenda is a night at the Hamilton Races in August where we hope to have more luck!
Bustin’ out of June this month we have new projects for 5G equipment at Glasgow Central and Waverley stations; temporary works at Cardenden as part of the existing AFA project; and tranche 2 of EV charger load monitoring works at multiple railway sites. A new project is just about to get underway for lighting at Clarkston goods yard with a client to whom we have been providing excellent service for the last 10 years; while smaller scale works such as load monitoring at Eastfield Depot and design for the Corkerhill Depot apprentice building are also ready to make a start.
Our biggest projects this June include Cardenden AFA works; 11kV renewals design, which is now well underway; design at Warrington training facility; Haymarket Depot welfare works; design for Inverness CSMD sump pump; ScotRail depots; Cadder wheel lathe; and national Megastream design. As always this month we are involved in many projects that cover sites across most of the country. These include HST platform extension works; CP7 UPS renewals; heritage migration works; EV chargers at Railway sites; REB wraparound protection; ECML feeder migration design; and ESD design between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Crossing borders we continue to be involved with design for Thurles REB in Ireland; while England plays host to works for Sudbrook pumping Station (serving the Severn Tunnel); shore supplies in Stourbridge and Banbury; Clacton Wheel Lathe; Darlington resignalling and Station Car Park CCTV; Chester Recontrol design; FTNx Power Design at Evesham; and M&E design at Queens Park Station, which is about to begin. Meanwhile, back in Scotland; we remain involved with sleeper servicing; TMD design; TMD welders’ sockets; and cabin power design all at Inverness. Nearby, there are AFA schemes at Inverurie and Nairn; detailed design in the Dundee to Montrose area; a level crossing at Gartly; the design stage of the Dundee Stabling project; CCTV design for Dunkeld Station; and modernisation works and yard EP design in Perth. In the South of the country we are providing site support for the previously designed Dumfries tanking works; Thornhill signal box; Heritage migration at Lockerbie station; works at Bowland Junction; and Ayr Station. As always, the central belt is full of a summer buzz with the main stations at Glasgow and Edinburgh home to works at the former for retail services, heritage migration works, power alterations for the Caledonia sleeper lounge, and HV Arch ventilation; and at the latter for lighting and lighting control. There are works for DNO renewals at Hyndland; destrat fans at Corkerhill Depot; Motherwell PSP design; Rutherglen Test Track; and design works around Law and Newton on the WCML. We are also still providing design advice for Yoker Bridge Deck; Balgray Station AFA; MELF works at Yoker; electrical design at Mossend Rail Terminal; and design for power and lighting at the Glasgow Subway.
The commercial sector is also looking good in June with works at a new healthcare facility near Edinburgh, design support at Greenock Ocean terminal and an initial look at electrical and lighting installations for a foil manufacturing facility. Stranraer Marina expansion is ongoing and we also remain involved with upgrades to a materials shed at one of our client’s premises; office refurbishments in Annan and Garscadden; and an organic waste recycling plant in the Glasgow area.
It’s shaping up to be a busy summer and the holidays have already started with trips to Spain and Portugal being undertaken by lucky staff members! We are pleased to announce that we have Dominic McGee starting a summer placement with us at the beginning of July and we hope he finds his time with us educational and, of course, enjoyable. However, if the above sounds exciting to you, there could always be room for a small one! So if you are a mechanical or electrical engineer at the assistant level, please submit your CV to Elise McLean at elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk and make us your summer blockbuster!
