May News!
/Everyone in the SVM office is excited this month as we prepare to exhibit once again at the Rail Infrastructure Network event – this year being held at Glasgow’s iconic SEC. SVM will be at their stand and happy to talk to all attendees on Thursday 21st May in SEC Hall 2, from 9.30am-1.30pm and we can’t wait to tell everyone about all our exciting current projects. So come along, grab some SV’M&M’ goodies and meet some of the SVM team in person. SVM are also pleased to announce our attendance at the Scottish Transport Awards where we supported the Kent/Volker shortlisted project at Glasgow Central PSP & Compressors Renewal. This project was a significant achievement for everyone involved and we wish the project team the best of luck on the night!
May has been a very busy month at SVM with new projects arising for DNO renewals at Hyndland; FTNx Power Design at Evesham; HST platform extension works; the design stage of the Dundee Stabling project; and site support for the previously designed Dumfries tanking works. We have taken our first foray into Irish Rail with design for Thurles REB; while works are getting underway for further EV mobile chargers, Rutherglen Test Track and Inverness TMD welders’ sockets. Meanwhile, we have made a return to the Glasgow subway with some design for power and lighting and are looking at another new Healthcare facility in Edinburgh.
This month’s big hitters include CP7 UPS renewals; design for Haymarket Depot Welfare Facilities; Clacton Wheel Lathe; ScotRail Depot Works; Stranraer Marina expansion; Chester Recontrol design; Dundee Stabling; heritage migration works, and National Megastream Design. Meanwhile, further design for lighting at Waverley Station; power alterations for the Caledonia sleeper lounge at Glasgow Central; load monitoring at Inverness; and detailed design in the Dundee to Montrose area are all just about to get underway. In the North of Scotland, we remain involved with sleeper servicing; CSMD sump pumps; TMD design; and cabin power design all at Inverness. Nearby, there are AFA schemes at Inverurie and Nairn; a level crossing at Gartly; CCTV design for Dunkeld Station; and modernisation works and yard EP design in Perth. The central belt sees continued involvement with destrat fans and fluid dispensing at Corkerhill Depot; wheel lathe works at Cadder; Motherwell PSP design; South Gyle Station footbridge design; Cardenden AFA; design works around Law and Newton on the WCML; and DNO migration at West Calder. A station rewiring project in Cambuslang is ongoing; as are works for Millerhill Depot stabling roads. We are also still providing design advice for Yoker Bridge Deck; Balgray Station AFA; MELF works at Yoker; and electrical design at Mossend Rail Terminal. The main stations in Glasgow and Edinburgh also remain very busy with works at the former for retail services, heritage migration works, and HV Arch ventilation; and at the latter for lighting and lighting control. Heading to the South of Scotland, works are ongoing for Thornhill signal box; Heritage migration at Lockerbie station; Bowland Junction; Ayr Station; and Hunterston. Of course there are also several projects that range across the country over multiple sites such as works for auxiliary signalling power; LV AC/DC power and Telecoms surveys; heritage migration works; EV chargers at Railway sites; REB wraparound protection; ECML feeder migration design; works for Avanti Waiting Rooms; and ESD design between Glasgow and Edinburgh. England also plays a large part in SVM’s current portfolio with further station loading assessments at Hull and FTN FGI renewals at Stoke and Didcot. Works for Sudbrook pumping Station (serving the Severn Tunnel) are just about to get underway; while shore supplies in Stourbridge and Banbury are ongoing. Meanwhile, we are making good progress with works at a training facility at Warrington Station and M&E design at Queens Park Station; while Darlington resignalling and Station Car Park CCTV; and works on the Ferrybridge to Goole route are all nearing completion.
SVM are also very conscious of keeping our hand in with the commercial sector and this month is no exception with design works at Greenock Ocean terminal and an initial look at electrical and lighting installations for a foil manufacturing facility. We also remain involved with upgrades to a materials shed at one of our client’s premises; office refurbishments in Annan and Garscadden; and an organic waste recycling plant in the Glasgow area.
As well as the RIN event there is also a night at the Hamilton Races coming up soon to have a flutter with some of our longest standing collaborators. With such a healthy portfolio and such a busy social schedule, SVM can always use another good engineer, especially mechanical and electrical engineers at the assistant level. If you would like to be involved in any of the above, please submit your CV to Elise McLean at elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk and hope that you’re first past the post!
