April News!
/It’s a new financial year and, hopefully, a great omen that it has been ushered in by such a nice spell of weather! There are lots of new projects to kick off 2025-2026 and we can’t wait to discover all the challenges and opportunities that this will bring. After a well earned break at the Easter weekend we are looking forward to getting started.
New for April 2025, we have many new projects all arising from the Railway which include 11kV renewals; car park CCTV at Winchburgh; walkway lighting at Craigentinny Depot; and Inverness sleeper servicing. There is also a new stage of works for REB wraparound protection; Corkerhill Departure Roads; and remedials design at Inverurie, Drumchapel and Kirkcaldy; while new works have arisen for energy reports at multiple sites; lighting control at Waverley and Scottish Heritage power supplies design. Meanwhile, in the commercial sector, we are beginning work for an office refurbishment in Annan and a residential conversion in Blair Atholl.
We’re also ranging far and wide across the rest of the country with our ongoing projects, this month led by Clacton Wheel Lathe, legacy migration works for multiple railway sites; Darlington station capacity project; Dundee traincare facilities; and various projects around Glasgow Central Station including retail; PSP/compressor works; Level 4 TPE, electrical surveys, and plant arch fire protection. Projects that cover a lot of ground in April include an extensive spread of UPS renewals works; design for the accelerated network; depot CET/water facilities design; design for station platforms on the West Highland main line; and remedials design at multiple sites. The North remains busy with CSMD sump pump works, pit lighting, replacement control panels, fuel tank failure analysis, Motorail buffer stop lighting and train crew accommodation at Inverness; and water pipe diversion, pumping station and signalling power works in Dundee. Multiple projects are ongoing at Dunkeld and Birnham Station; while surveys on the Aberdeen to Central Belt route; and design covering the Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie route are making good progress. A little further South, heading for the Central Belt, we have made a good start on resignalling design in the Perth area and are in the early stages of design for a PHCC in Arbroath. Edinburgh is a popular place with new design for multiple DBs; ventilation design, concourse lighting control, calorifier design; digital advertising boards; and distribution design. We have progressed with 650V signalling feeders in the Townhill area; refurbishment works at a Polmadie relay room; design assistance for East Kilbride electrification works; and design works at Portobello. The refit of Edinburgh IECC, CETs at Craigentinny and WSSC works are going well, as are as those for the DPS at Broomloan; GRIP 5 AFA at Balgray station; and Yoker MELF – while Yoker Bridge deck works are about to enter a new phase. In Ayrshire and the Borders we continue with Irvine MDU; booking office; platform water heating and re-energisation works at Ayr Station; and tanking works in Dumfries. We remain frequent visitors South of the Border with ongoing projects for Transpennine Express premises in Hull, Newcastle and York; footbridge lighting in York; Ravensthorpe SFC; CCTV in a station car park in Darlington; and various works at multiple depots including Tysley, Eastcroft and Etches Park. Bangor to Colwyn Bay edges ever closer to completion; while CET design in Carmarthen; Selhurst REB and wheel lathe; and Ferrybridge to Goole route works remain ongoing.
In our non-railway related endeavours, we are pleased to remain involved with a large scale project at Stranraer Marina; an office refurbishment in Garscadden; a healthcare facility in Elland; two recycling plants in the Glasgow area; and ongoing works for Glasgow’s famous SEC.
We’re pleased to welcome a new face to SVM for 25-26 with Andrew Orr joining us as Electrical Engineer. We wish him well in his position and are sure that he will develop into an integral part of the team. We are looking forward to the year ahead and even planning a little soiree to celebrate a very successful 24-25 – if everyone survives the Easter school holidays! We’d like to wish all of our clients and collaborators a safe and relaxing Spring break and hope that you enjoy the sunshine for as long as it lasts! As you can see, it’s a packed year ahead and if you want to learn more, we will be exhibiting at the RIN Glasgow event on 22nd May at the Glasgow Hilton - so please do come along and see us. And if all that whets your appetite, then maybe SVM could be the place for you, so send your CV and covering letter to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk and it could put a Spring in your step!
