December News!

And just like that, 2025 is gone!  This has been a bumper year at SVM Glasgow and we want to thank each and every one of our clients and collaborators for helping to make this one of our best years yet.  We currently have an incredibly strong team at SVM and we are geared up and ready to tackle whatever exciting challenges 2026 is waiting to throw at us!

There have been so many last minute presents at SVM this year that it is hard to keep track, with new projects arising in December for cabin power design in Inverness; DNO migration at West Calder; a second phase of Shields feasibility; and some rectification works at pantograph monitoring sites.  We have been asked to undertake some new design at ScotRail’s Caledonia Chambers (a popular site in the last year); UPS works for the CCTV at Glasgow Central station; stabling works at Dundee; design for an active travel path at Dunbar; advertising boards at Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central; and level crossings at Oyne and Gartley.  Meanwhile, in England, we have become involved with design for a railway training facility at Warrington; some further station loading assessments at Hull; Paragon; and some interesting engineering works associated with the Severn Tunnel.

December’s big projects include UPS surveys at multiple railway sites; Motherwell PSP design; Inverness TMD design; Clacton wheel lathe works; Perth Modernisation; Millerhill Depot stabling roads; Yoker Bridge Deck; Heritage Migration works; Megastream surveys and design; and Balgray Station AFA.  We could do with having Rudolph on hand to get us to all the locations involved in our multiple-site projects such as auxiliary signalling power; LV AC/DC power and Telecoms surveys; works on the Aberdeen to Central Belt and Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie routes; and ESD design between Glasgow and Edinburgh.  Starting nearest the North Pole, other projects staying with us for Christmas include sleeper servicing design, CSMD sump pump works, replacement control panels, Motorail buffer stop lighting; and train crew accommodation at Inverness; AFA schemes at Inverurie and Nairn; provision of design advice for a pumping station and signalling power works in Dundee; and EP design at a yard in Perth.  Getting nearer home, we remain involved with solar EV works at a Railway location on Glasgow’s South Side, further load monitoring and reporting at Corkerhill; and retail design, HV Arch ventilation, design for the Caledonia Sleeper lounge, Level 4 TPE, electrical surveys, PSP/compressor works, and plant arch fire protection at Glasgow Central.  Over in Edinburgh, Waverley station is still abuzz with design for lighting control, ventilation refurbishment, advertising boards, calorifiers; and distribution; while design for South Gyle Station footbridge; further AFA works at Cardenden Station; and LV design on the Haymarket to Dalmeny route are also making good progress.  MELF works at Yoker are still ongoing, as are CETs at Craigentinny; Access For All works at Dumbarton Central and Bellgrove Stations; and electrical design at Mossend Rail Terminal; while AFA works at Falkirk Grahamston; WCML works at Law and Newton; and a rectifier survey at Greenhill are all in full swing.  It’s a Merry Christmas South of the Border too with projects covering FTN FGI renewals at Stoke and Didcot; CCTV design in Allerton; toilet refurbishments in Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes; Darlington resignalling and Station Car Park CCTV; Transpennine Express premises in Hull, Newcastle and York; Ravensthorpe SFC; and works on the Ferrybridge to Goole route.

In the commercial sector, we remain heavily involved with the large scale Stranraer Marina expansion; upgrades to a materials shed at one of our client’s premises; a Dentist surgery in Glasgow and electrical design for a workshop near Larbert.  We are also nearing completion on a B&B in pretty Ballater; office refurbishments in Annan and Garscadden; and two recycling plants in the Glasgow area.

Everybody at SVM is looking forward to a Christmas break and the office will be closing on 24th December until 05th January, giving everybody a chance to recharge - ready for 2026.  We begin our Christmas Thai style with lunch at Chaophraya on the 19th December and then something of a ‘Jack Skellington’ crew will be available as usual on 22nd-24th December.  If the Christmas spirit moves you to realise that maybe SVM might be the place for you, then please don’t hesitate to get Santa to drop off your CV and covering letter – or just email it to elise.mclean@svm-glasgow.co.uk !  In the meantime, however, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our clients and collaborators a safe, Happy and peaceful Christmas, with best wishes for the New Year.
